Pushing Along...

A lot has gone on in the past couple of weeks. From organizing the Halloween Videoblog Festival, to a speaking on a panel at Harvardwood, to the start of my mentorship at IFP/Film Independent, to the Vloggies (we won one for JETSET), to meetings all over the place, to going to NYC because of a death in the family, to editing day and night for various projects, to trying to keep it together... :)

It's about 8:46am and I haven't been to bed yet. Life is a little unbalanced right now. Okay, more than a little. Currently, there is a pile of laundry that needs to be done. The fridge has been emtpy for longer than I care to admit. I haven't had time to exercise in months. And Steve and I are looking like the walking dead - not the greatest look for sunny California.

I don't even have time to make links for the text above. Why can't that just magically happen? Why isn't technology that far advanced yet? I should be able to snap my fingers... or better yet, just blink.

I've also had to get a new laptop. The logic board on the old one got fried. The fans kept on blowing at the oddest times and then finally one day it decided not to turn on. Fucker. I was on deadline too. It wasn't a fun day.

Steve and I are also in the midst of organizing everything at our production company - Smashface Productions. There is a lot to organize and even more to figure out. Did you know you can't get checks at a bank? You have to order them online or on the phone. The bank wouldn't even order them for us. What the hell?

One of my top five most HATED things in the world are automated phone tellers. I'll leave you with that... as I watch the JETSET videos compress.

Halloween Videoblog Festival 2006 - Call for Videos!!

The 2nd Annual Halloween Videoblog Festival is happening on Saturday, October 28th, from 7pm-11pm at the Yahoo Campus in Santa Monica. We have Yahoo, Google, TV Guide, Jeff Pulver's Network2.tv (thanks Chris Brogan!!!), and ActiveMaps sponsoring. We're also welcoming the "Amanda Across America" project to Los Angeles. There will be folks from NYTimes, LATimes and TechCrunch there as well as cameras galore.

We are asking ALL videobloggers to make scary videos to be screened at the Yahoo Campus. We're also talking to TV Guide about promoting the videos that are screened on their channel. Their goal is to become a bridge between traditional media and new media - and hopefully help the videoblogging community gain exposure en masse. Network2.tv will also be at the helm, interviewing videobloggers and promoting the videos of the Halloween Videoblog Festival.

We'll also be donating some of the proceeds to Node 101. We would like to be true to the spirit of the medium in helping to continue the tradition of teaching others to videoblog and helping to support independent video makers.

Videobloggers who want to attend are invited. So send an email if you'd like to party! If you can't make it - no worries. ALL of it will be online. And the videos will live virtually on halloweenvlogfest.com.

Videobloggers will have one week to make the scariest video ever! So pick up those cameras and scare the crap out of each other. Film your kids, film your cat, film that ghost that just crossed your path.

At this point we're looking for friends to contribute any ideas on how to make this better and blow it out of the park. So send over all outrageous thoughts. So far we have Rick Rey's skills helping to redesign the website. Eric Rey, Lan and Vu Bui and Bonny Pierzina producing video promos and helping out the day of. Any help of the most outrageous kind is MOST welcome. :)

RSSNews.tv Promo #2: Ronnie Goes to BarCamp

So the second promo for RSS News is up at RSSNews.tv. Please check it out - every week. This time we took Ronnie out to BarCamp LA, and he didn't quite know how to behave himself.

We should be launching the show by next Monday. A lot of production stuff is going on right now, but it's good getting something out there. It also helps us get to know our puppet friends. There are still three others (Rita, Kitty, and Omar) who are on deck, waiting to make their appearance. Modding puppets is fun. I'm thinking this may become one of those hobbies I take up. Reminds me of when I used to sew clothes for my dolls when I was like 12 -- yikes, regression. :)

How To Keep A Healthy Level Of Insanity And Drive Other People Insane...

(In cleaning out my hard drive, I found this laundry list of "how to annoy people" my friend Adam had sent me years ago. Made me giggle. So I wanted to share.)

1. At lunchtime, sit in your parked car and point a hair dryer at passing cars to see if they slow down.

2. Page yourself over the intercom. (Don't disguise your voice.)

3. Insist that your email address be Xena-goddess-of-fire@companyname.com or Elvis-the-king@companyname.com.

4. Every time someone asks you to do something, ask if they want fries with that.

5. Encourage your colleagues to join you in a little synchronized chair dancing.

6. Put your garbage can on your desk and label it 'IN.'

7. Develop an unnatural fear of staplers.

8. Put decaf in the coffee maker for 3 weeks. Once everyone has gotten over their caffeine addictions, switch to espresso.

9. In the memo field of all your checks, write "for sexual favors"

10. Reply to everything someone says with, "That's what you think."

11. Finish all your sentences with "In accordance with the prophecy."

12. Adjust the tint on your monitor so that the brightness level lights up the entire working area. Insist to others that you like it that way.

13. Dont use any punctuation

14. As often as possible, skip rather than walk.

15. Ask people what sex they are.

16. Specify that your drive through order is "to go."

17. Sing along at the opera.

18. Go to a poetry recital and ask why the poems don't rhyme.

19. Find out where your boss shops and buy exactly the same outfits. Wear them one day after your boss does. (This is especially effective if your boss is the opposite gender.)

20. Send e-mail to the rest of the company to tell them what you're doing. For example: "If anyone needs me, I'll be in the bathroom."

21. Put mosquito netting around your cubicle.

22. Five days in advance, tell your friends you can't attend their party because you're not in the mood.

23. Call 911 and ask if 911 is for emergencies

24. Call the psychic hotline and just say, "Guess"

25. Have your co-workers address you by your wrestling name, Rock Hard.

26. When the money comes out of the ATM, scream "I Won!", "I Won!" "3rd time this week!!!"

27. When leaving the Zoo, start running towards the parking lot, yelling "Run for your lives, they're loose!"

28. Tell your boss, "It's not the voices in my head that bother me, its the voices in your head that do"

29. Tell your children over dinner. "Due to the economy, we are going to have to let one of you go"

30. Every time you see a broom yell "Honey, your mother is here"
